H, I and “Pea”

S Prep 3For those of you who have been following our growing alphabet this summer, you may be wondering what happened to those final letter installations. Not to fret! S, W, H and I have all been fully installed and are visitor ready.

Charlotte Kaplan installed “W is for Washing” and Margaret Bellafiore installed “S is for Symbol” back on May 14. Both windows can be found on the third floor. “W” gives a whole new meaning to laundry day and “S” is filled with symbols both new and familiar. (“S” could also stand for semaphore.)

I install detailOur final letters, H and I were installed the following week. Rachel Mello brought to life “H is for Homes” with her own cut wood designs and our natural history specimens. The Museum staff all got involved with “I is for I Spy…” We opened the collections closet to our staff to select their favorite objects. The completed window shows a cross section of all that is hidden in collections storage.

As for the delay in sharing the alphabet update… On May 17, I welcomed a new addition of my own, a sweet “Pea.” After taking these past months off, I am making my way back to work and catching up on all I missed, including H and I.Pea

W Prep 1“An Alphabet of Inspiration” will be installed through the rest of 2013 and into 2014. We hope you’ll find a letter that suits your fancy on your next visit, whether it’s your initials, an object that surprises or delights, or an artist or artwork that catches your eye, there is something for everyone!

  1. Congratulations on your very own Sweet Pea! That is my birthday also, and Norwegian Constitution Day…just in case she has a bit of Scandinavian in her!

  2. Thank you, Nicki! Pea is getting more and more fun each day. She is Chinese, English, Irish, German/Hungarian. I’ll have to do a little digging to see if there’s a bit of Scandinavian in the mix!
